If you use the ATMs you'll get the same as the average street rate, there's no commission, you won't get ripped off etc.
Only thing to do before you leave home is check with your bank as to what transaction fee may apply, if any, for using an overseas ATM.
Mine doesn't charge any fees, but I've heard some charge $4 per withdrawal. Still, if you only make 10 withdrawals in your trip that's only $40 - which is less than you can potentially be ripped off by an unscrupulous money changer... and it's a lot less hassle.
