When my husband and I moved from america to australia, lots of our plugs were 110V as opposed to 220V. We had to get a converter that also had an adaptor on it...ie..changed the voltage and gave us the correct pin style to fit into the socket. If you just get an adaptor, all it will do is change the pin style and not the voltage, which could cause considerable damage to your appliances.
