Does anyone have any experience in purchasing HARDwood carvings and/or goods? My brother bought back a chess set some years ago from Bali which is nice but of very average quality and in a soft wood (not sure which species of tree). I am going to Bali in September and keen on a chess and or backgammon set that is handcarved but in a Hardwood. I would expect to pay upwards of AUS$500 for a hand crafted hardwood chess set in Melbourne and was wondering if anyone had any experience purchasing this type of thing in Bali? Can anyone also tell me if there are any endangered types of hard wood in Bali or any other enviromental considerations I should be aware of?
