Clive & Peggy to do a post. That's why I didn't say anything.I had a phone call from Bopgirl asking the same thing a couple of days ago !Second request so I suppose I better do something.
We ended up getting there a bit later than expected because my other half went into work on Saturday to catch up.We arrived about 6.30pm after making the water bottle trip down South .We caught up with Clive & Peggy & Dennis & Carol.Unfortunately Amii & Joe didn't turn up because of Joe's work committments. It was a pity more people didn't come.
In brief - It was BYO drinks & chairs so we squeezed into a spot & got comfy with a drink & nibbles. There were some lovely displays of Balinese dancing by some very talented women who we were told had been practising as a group for a couple of months to get their routines in sync. Some good music by a band.A very graphic & emotional DVD about Banda Aceh -a lot more full on that anything that was on TV - there was barely a dry eye in the house during this segment.Prayers were said as well as a few guest speakers. There were many items donated for the raffle & I expect it would have been about 20 prizes. Our son was thrilled to win a surf magazine, cap ,sarong & a belt from his raffle ticket.I expect there would have been about 150 people attend the evening & at times it was a pretty tight fit in Glenn's back yard.Everyone donated $7 a head at the gate & donation tins were available as well as a selection of items for sale with the proceeds going towards victims of Banda Aceh.
We had been asked to take some BBQ food with us to share but there was really no need.I think they had been worried because they ran out of food last year. There was so much food - snags, curries, chicken, satays, nasi goreneg, mie goreng, salads - even party pies & fish fingers etc for the kids or those not into indonesian food !
Everyone was really friendly & it was a fun night. All I can say is the south of Adelaide sure gets a hell of a lot colder than up north.About 9pm a very cold wind came in & everyone was going out to their cars for coats & jackets.Fires were lit in 44 gallon drums but after a while we agree we were frozen through to the bone so head up to Dennis & Carol's place a few minutes away for a nice warming cuppa before we made the long hike back home.
There are a number of other activities planned over the next few months in Adelaide for the Australian Indonesian association.I expect Clive & Peggy will let us know about these in due course.
