At Sanur there are no waves and they have cleaned up the beach. They were seen raking it last time we were there. The tide goes out a fair way though in the arvo.
I wouldn't swim at Kuta again. Took the boys in January cos they had to surf. Waves were out some way spo close to shore is ok but the crap (rubbish) in the water is constantly brushing up against you. The water even looked brown. I watched the lifeguards and they were having a huge time chatting on the beach. Didn't see them watch the water though. We walked along the beach from the top of Kuta to Tuban and the rubbish on the sand was gross. Obviously no effort to at least clean up what had washed up.
The other beach we went to was Dreamland. It was beautiful. You could quite easily spend a day at this beach. It is a surf beach but only seasonal. Good for surfing from about JUne if i remember correctly. The day we were they there was a little swell but no waves. Plenty of families with children.
I would recommend this beach. A few hawkers wandering around but nothing like Kuta and good prices. We bought a huge amount of CD's and they all worked not like others we bought in stores.
The food is cheap there.
There is a little down hill walk to get to the beach but certainly worth it.
