Sorry about not replying earlier, very busy around here;-)
I don't know that the Ayu would be the best intro for first timers due to the distance out from Legian/Kuta. I think the constant taxiing may become off putting.
The hotel itself would be better suited to those that know their way around and know what they want as the grounds and pool area don't leave much room to wander.
I think Ramayana would be the better intro with a fair bit of time up at Ubud to get away from the madding crowd and the humidity that will be starting to build at that time of year.
That would probably give them a better overview of the 2 sides of Bali.
