The tuban area or far east end of Kuta beach, gets less swell than the legian end,as there are reefs offshore blocking swell.

Jimbaran bay???...Im almost embarassed to say in all my trips, but I havent relly checked it out(I will next time ok)...looking at a map and knowing where reefs sit I would imagine receive's less swell, but dont know how sandy it is?

from legian way down past medewi (near negara) gets a fair bit of swell, then starts decressing in size until nothing(blocked by jawa)where you bassically get no swell all the way around the north coast to the east coast, where it starts getting a bit in odd areas and bigger around sanur, nusa dua where there is areas that are blocked by outside reefs.
Anywhere on the Bukit penisular,is pretty open to swell and dangerous for swimming.
And personally I wouldn't recomend swimming at dreamlands, great place for some shorebreak spinal injure.

There is a couple little nooks that dont get much swell, like right inside padang padang and even behind the reef at bingin, but generally they are a bit rocky/reefy and can still have strong currents from the wave action nearby.

Up in the corner of Kuta would be my pick safety wise, especially if the wind is blowing offshore(se trade winds around late autum to end of mid spring) or clean in mornings as when the surface water is cleaner/still it is a lot easyier to see rips/sweeps than when blowing onshore and messy and choppy.
Plus there is also saftey in numbers.

Okay help that helps :]
