when I had to have unexpected surgery for a prolapsed back disc before travel. We were insured with Mutual Community (now AXA) and they paid, totally, for everything, quickly. My situation was so serious that the neurosurgeon said the Insurers would NOT let me travel because the plane flight could result in an emergency situation on the plane and the possibility of being in a wheelchair for life - this was because I was pleading to him to let me travel! And that would have cost the Insurers many thousands of dollars in the disability payout, obviously $KKKKK more than they had to pay for the cost of the trip, so I guess they were happy to pay out a coupla thousand instead of $200K!
