The neighbours are now leaving tomorrow.
The travel agent was rung Thursday night and assured them that info re Irish passports not being eligible for VOA was incorrect and they would have no problems.
Got to the checkin at the airport where they were advised by the 3rd supervisor up the chain meant that no visa no entry. She would cop a small fine and be put on the next plane back.
They then went to the Indonesian Consulate in Perth by 9 am and had the visa by 12 pm after all the photos forms were completed.
The visa cost $120 for immediate issue or $60 for 3 day issue.
The travel agent arranged for them to transfer from AP to Garuda early flight tomorrow and instead of returning Friday afternoon they will return on Garuda Sat night flight with travel agent picking up the difference in cost. Plus chocolates & wine!!
Now Jane Doe has fallen apart although John Doe is taking it in his stride - sort of. It is their second time overseas and first with a child (18months).
Just wish them well and hope nothing else happens.

check your passport expiry date must be 6 months after your return.
They were lucky as Janes Australian citizenship becomes official at the end of March so the Irish passport has not been renewed.
Check the country entry requirements - not every passport is ok with every country. And don't assume any country is just an extension of Australia and we are welcome at any time.
