unless your doctor has an interest in tropical medicine they will not always be giving you the most current advice. Many older GPs still advise the ol' cholera/typhoid option relying on what was current 20 years ago. Nowadays its more likely that you would be worried about diseases like all the Heps, tetanus and, not to forget, polio. And no, polio immunisation does not last forever and yes, most asian countries still have polio as a modern disease.
