We often walk along the beach at low tide or road by the beach (Jl Pantai Kuta) and its gorgeous. Takes about 20 minutes from Padma to Poppies 2 and maybe 30 minutes to Kuta Square. If there's heaps of traffic it's often quicker to walk than take a taxi. If the heat gets too much you can always get one then.Also, as Jl Legian is mostly one way(going south) and Jl Pantai Kuta is one way (going north)a bit of walking often saves a lot of taxi time.
As a guide, if you're heading north from the Padma it takes about 10 mins to walk to the Jayakarta and say another 15 mins to the Bintang Supermarket. Have a great trip!
