1) Yes, you could certainly try for a free late check out. Depending on the bookings, you just might get it as well. But, in all probability, you will have to pay between 25% and 50% of the room rate extra for just those 3 extra hours.
2) I booked DKP over the net. My agent in Bombay (I am from Bombay, India) was quoting me ridiculous rates. Even DKP direct(net) was quoting me 115US$ per night. I got it for 77US$ and saved 304US$ over 8 nights. Spent the money saved on extra massages, better food, taxis, tips, etc, etc ;-) If you don't book before you get there, you run the risk of a)not getting accomodation b)paying more, unless the hotel is relatively empty and you are a good bargainer. This is a call you have to make depending on whom you are travelling with, what sort of deal your agent is offering you and how desperate you are to stay at the DKP.
3)Room 4018 is on the right side. Not ocean FACING, but excellent views of the pools, Indian Ocean and sunset. The downside was the A/C and the shower/basin. But, there are reasonably good chances they could have had that fixed by now ;-)
4)The DKP is in Tuban, South Kuta. Very conveniently located. And, the staff is really friendly. Despite the problems with the room, we vibed very well with the staff.
One last tip. You can keep your packed luggage at the concierge of the hotel by 12 noon on the day you check out. Then spend the next 3 hrs doing any or all of the following a) take a massage at Eve's just across b) have lunch at any of the great restaurants around the place 3) last minute shopping at Matahari's, Kuta 4) relax in the beautiful lobby sipping on some Bintang. There are plenty of other things as well. You just have to let your imagination go ;-) Basically, relax and have FUN.
Bali is a GREAT place.
