At the Discovery Kartika Plaza (DKP), which was supposed to be an ocean facing room, overlooked the pools and we had a good view of the Indian Ocean, no trees in the way, as we were on the top floor of the hotel. But, it wasn't ocean FACING. And, yes, the A/C didn't function properly right through. Not very plesant, when its so humid.
The tour desk at the hotel is excellent. They will organise the Grayline Tours (locally known as Panorama) for you. Picked up at the hotel, dropped back at the end. Very professional. Reasonable rates. Good guides. You get to meet interesting people from different countries. I would recommend doing at least one tour.
The cultural dances organised by the hotel are pretty good. Along with the buffet dinner, they cost 99,000 Rupiah per head. All the major ones were performed ie Kecak, Legong, Barong. You spend about an hour and a half...drinking Bintang, buffet dinner and watching the Balinese performing. Not at all bad ;-)
Whenever you need to dine out, say at Kerokoban or Seminyak or Ubud, ask the concierge at the DKP to make your reservation and arrange for a Bluebird taxi. The taxi will charge by the meter and not cheat you.
Very convenient and comfortable ;-)
Enjoy your stay at the DKP.
