we had a similar event happen in Noosa. Family with 3 kids were talking so loud and the kids were hanging around our table, uninvited and then started singing etc etc. We would never have allowed our kids to bother other diners but these parents just didnt care. So we asked the father to keep his kids seated at the table. Next thing he let forth with such a barrage of expletives that his kids started crying, directed at us! Then the mother came and sat at our table and wouldnt leave!
In the end, we just got up and left - didnt pay for the meal because the restaurant said we shouldnt and we were so upset by this unnecessary act of dishumanity.
I think I would have preferred what happened to you than what happened to us, but both are nasty
