We were there in January and I was really glad I'd gone in the morning. Hardly any tourists and things felt quieter, although there were large groups of school children and/or locals. Also went in the a.m. because the tide was low & you could walk over to the base of TL. Paid a small donation to wash in the holy water & get blessed by the priest. It was one of the highlights of my trip there. Had fun bargaining with the stall folk esp. the ladies with the lurid green coconut treats. Actually pretty yummy in spite of how they looked. The treats not the ladies!
Took pretty good pictures at that time of day as well.
Have to agree about the bathrooms - not cleaned "often" by any stretch of the imagination, but hey, sometimes you just gotta go & what's the 1,000Rp donation really worth anyhow?
