I can totally relate, the first time I went to Bali was in 1994, and I also hated it...I was just going through culture shock, at the time I had not been much of an International traveler, guess I expected it to be more like home...it was nothing like anything I had ever experienced before....mostly it was the lack of facilities, no restrooms or running water, and filthy toilets, I couldn't stomach it...but now I realize it was great to have experienced it back then, because now, it is nothing like that....it is quite modern, many places have nice facilities, and Bali has been focusing on "clean-up" so every place is sooooooooooooo much cleaner...however, the beaches do get alot of rubbish during the rainy season..
