we have been several times but to be honest - on about our 3rd trip in 1991 - we had a pretty ordinary time - hated the hotel we stayed in - the Dyana Pura in Seminyak - poxy room and noise booming all night from a nearby disco - a huge ceiling fan left its mountings and landed in the middle of our table - spraying us with broken glass and salad dressing - very close to being seriously hurt - and just missed a baby who was crawlimg near our table - very shaken we were ( can't believe we even paid our bill before leaving).We went for a walk along Kuta beach to calm down and all I wanted to do was go home. Then to top it all off our Garuda plane lost an engine on take off - we were just numb with fear and half the passengers were crying - all very scary considering we had left 3 small children at home and thought we were going to die- never again Garuda - took many flights to get over the flahbacks and I'm not a wuss :( We have seen dead peeople and tourists with horrific injuries from accidents ( mainly motorbike)had my bag snatched , been cursed and told by a Balinese hawker that she wished my baby would die - just coz I didn't buy from her ...lovely :(
Our last trip - after the bomb - I must say the first night I didn't sleep too well - I had the heebies - but soon got used to it and decided we would be fine.I do think the older you get the more you see life thru not such rose coloured glasses.....I feel that in Asia generally - things can get very nasty quite easily...but we keep our wits about us and have had some amazing holidays....At the end of the day Bali still is a very special part of the world - warts and all :)Yep...even PARADISE had little faults I guess
