Have travelled to bali Before and was advised by our Dr to get Typhoid and Hep A + Tetanus. Costs are about right, however, if you have a Health Fund some will pay about half the cost (preventative medicine). Typhiod is given about 6-8 weeks before you go and a followup/booster within 12 months. I think you are then covered for life.
The main reason for the expense is that the Aust Govt won't subsidise immunisation serum.
I guess the bottom line is, are you prepared to risk the consequences? We wern't - and were both over 40.
PS Dont forget to take a small First Aid Kit with you. Bandaids, small bandages etc.also some Betadine antiseptic - for cuts and abrasions. This keeps the area clean while the injury heals.
