You may find it easier to swim at Pantai Geger. This beach is at Nusa Dua and you can find details on the beach info site which Mic directed you to. Totally different to the beaches in the Dreamland area, not as scenic, but a nice contrast and certainly easier swimming. Also a possibility for some easy low-key snorkeling if you're into doing that, near the rocky headland which is on the right as you reach the beach.
I've swum in the ocean at Seminyak, various places from about level with La Lucciola to up towards Canggu, but you've got to be confident in the surf to even consider doing that when the surf is big. But there are places where it's probably easier than it may look.
In regard to the "search the Forum" comments, when I first found this forum, not really so long ago, I was one of those people who didn't know how to do things. I know the old saying is, "If all else fails, read the instructions", but I was in too much of a hurry to read about everyone's adventures to stop and check all the useful info starting just underneath the row of geese at the top. I've since read many posts which indicate that I'm by no means the only one who did not stop to "read the instructions". It seems like it's human nature, doesn't it?
