Nor do I know if I can as was so long ago.
We stayed at Tirtagangga in 91' and 98'. Though not at the water palace itself (as it was a bit pricey) we did have nice accomodation right near the pools that was only about $10-$20pn. Don't remember the name or know if it still exists.
Both times we drove ourself and had no prior booking. On neither occasion did we have any trouble getting a room and also checked out quite a few other places in the vicinity that seemed O.K. too, though some were a bit of a hike up steps.
Also stayed at Candi Dasi. Comparing the two all I can say, is that they are two totally different experiences and both worth a few nights if you can manage it.
