Mistakes made on my first trip:
Paid for transfers through travel agent - use taxi, as well as being much cheaper, its quicker because you don't have to wait for others.
Haggled over A$1 - don't try and barter first day until you get used to the money.
Give yourself time to adjust, lots of people get put off with hawkers etc on first trip out of hotel, but you soon manage OK and once you have relaxed and start smiling you will appreciate it all much more. After all, one of the joys of travel is to experience somewhere different to home.
