act like you know what your doing. When I first went, I got flustered when the hawkers surrounded me and I would end up buying from everyone just to keep them off my back. Now 7 years later shopping is a breeze. Friends of mine went for the first time last October. She kept texting me for help with shopping and knowing what to pay. So this is the advice I gave her and she said it was the best advice she had got and it made her shopping experience more enjoyable.

Always appear to know what you are doing.
Always be firm but in a nice way. (sometimes I have lost it)
When buying something always think about what you would pay for it at home and dont go over that.

If you offer a price and they let you walk you know that it was too cheap, so when in the next shop go up higher.

Dont spend time haggling over a dollar, they need it more than us so let them have it. Most of the balinese are beautiful people so I dont mind doing this.

Hope they have a great trip!! Im going in 58 sleeps and cant wait!!
