Hi Deeandee,
Have stayed at Alu Bali Villas a couple of times, they are fantastic.
The breakfast (which is cooked in your own villa kitchen) is great and plentiful and they do a very reasonably priced dinner set up with candles. Make sure you take some of your own CD's as the stero is great to have on quietly in the background when lounging around or having dinner.
The villas themselves are spectacular and very private (outdoor bathrooms are fantastic). They have water ponds all around them and are light at night.
As for restaurants you could not be better located. Within walking distance is The Livingroom, La Lucciola & Hu'u. You are also just a quick (and cheap) taxi ride from Ku De Ta (where I was married in April this year and not to be missed) and the other great restaurants of Jl Laksmana such as Rumours, Mykonos, Kuni's, Karama the list is endless.
As for the beach, it has a strong rip just outside of La Lucciola (the closests point to Alu). A tip though is to walk down to Ku De Ta along the beach and camp yourself their as the water is safer. You can hire a beach lounge from one of the beach sellers or if you are more cashed up, use one of the Ku De Ta lounges overlooking the beach and just buy some drinks and nibbles all day (well worth the expense for one day).
One other tip, just around the corner from Alu Bali Villas and just up the road from La Lucciola is the world famous spa Bodyworks II. Go in for a message or treatment in the morning (you will have to book a day or two in advance they get so busy) and then pop over for to La Lucciola for a juice or some lunch and sit on the deck overlooking the beach, sensational.............
Can't wait to head back in April 2006.
Enjoy
