We were there last year for 3 nights only, staying at the Holiday Inn, great hotel, you cannot walk to the shops or restaurants, but the restaurants will supply transport for you. We flew over from Bali with Merpati, the flight was hot and cramped, and a bit nerve racking for my wife, but we are doing it all again in August, My wife thinks the scenery is better than Bali, but i think she forgot about Ubud. We still keep in contact with our great driver and now friend Husni(081 8547883) and owner of Matahari cafe Joe. They both have a great sense of humour. If you dont want to fly, you can go by ferry, but i have heard it takes up to 6 hours.
