I had a wonderful time - but I spent far too long in Kuta, I am too old for clubbing etc. I was quite intimidated by some shop keepers, hawkers in Legian St and getting down towards Mataharis some would not let go of my son's arm nor take their hand from his back(trying to steer us towards their shop. Kuta was just too busy a place for me. I don't even live in a city,so I found it busy and noisy.
As for well meaning travel hints (mainly from family members) - I was so paranoid about losing my passport, putting my bag down, losing my camera, hanging on to the piece of paper they give you after you pay the $25, grabbing a trolley and the luggage before a porter. I was stressed even before I got off the plane,in case any of these calamities happened. I suppose I was just really frightened going overseas for the first time only my son and myself.
I really loved the cultural aspect of Bali particularly their spiritual culture. I enjoyed the lushness of the countryside, the rich vibrant shade of green that I have never seen before. I was fascinated with their physical daily life - the way the build their buildings, chisel their statues, oxen in the street work in the rice fields. Sanur I thought was beautiful = Tanah Lot - breathtaking. I am looking forward to a quieter holiday in Sept.
