Mobile Phone Query

I have a older model Nokia mobile which is prepaid thru Telstra. I have a couple of friends in Bali we (my hubbie and I)met last year and would like to be able to ring or text them using my mobile, but my pre paid is for australian use only. Can any one give me advice on how to get my mobile to work in Bali.
Also, is any one going to Bali in April around the 3rd to the 17th and staying in the Seminyak area. Would love to meet up and have a bingtang or few with some new people.
