is good in front of Vienna Beach Hotel in Lipah [that whole area is usually known as Amed]. Best at the time of month which has least rise and fall of the tide. Also good at Blue Lagoon, Padang Bai, as long as you get there before the surf starts to get up. I've only been to those areas in August/September and I understand that conditions can vary considerably after heavy rain. In any case, it's a great scenic drive.

A [hopefully] fast run on the new coastal highway, but when you reach Padang Bai, the ferry port for Lombok, you will see something of what an old Balinese fishing village used to be like. Then on through pleasant countryside to Candi Dasa. Go up to Amed on the coast road, weather permitting, and back on the inland road past Tirtagangga Water Palace. Some magnificent mountain/valley/rice terrace views.

If you also get some good snorkelling, that would be a bonus. In front of Vienna Beach Hotel, the live coral is very extensive with lots of fish and even if you choose to go a long way out, you will feel very safe.
