Some suggestions i would have would be :-
Definately to get a driver, i can recommend the one i use if hes not booked at the time youre there. his website www.geocities.com/balidriver_mademangku Best to send him an email prior to going then to ring him when you arrive to organise what things youd like to do. Hes very reliable and trustworthy plus great with the kids having two himself.He charges around 300,000rp for a full day about $45 or you can go for half days or a few hrs
Something my 7 yr old loves is to get picked up around 8am to go Bali Zoo its quite a nice small Zoo and you can get quite close to the animals then go to the monkey forest in Ubud for a quick look .Just a word dont take any food in ie iceblocks etc. Then from there go to the Lotus Cafe for lunch has a really nice outlook then you should be back in time for a swim in the afternoon .If you want to buy kites and you went with Made theres a great place to stop where the guys are making them on the side of the road.
We havent been before but will be to the Bali bird Park i think they do breakfast with the birds.

Let the kids do some bargaining on the beach .
Jimbaran Bay would be another outing id recommend with the kids get picked up just before 5 then the kids can play on the beach and youll be there in time for the sunset. They always sell all those glowy toys etc. Suggest Sharkeys or Ganesha restaurant.The driver will just wait for you to take you back to the hotel later although we usually just get Made to come to tea with us and pay for his meal as well but thats a personal choice.
