Ten anti-drug zealots burst into the courtroom, and suddenly people think that all Indonesians are trying to kill Australians.
Indonesia has done much to convict terrorists, as opposed to merely rounding them up, jailing them indefinitely without trial, and torturing them.
They are no less harsh when their own citizens are caught smuggling drugs.
Death is the maximum penalty for the crime of smuggling drugs. 4.2kgs is a lot of drugs to smuggle. You'd have to be involved in organised crime or the military to even attempt to get away with any more than that.
Either she's guilty, and has contributed to her own fate, or she's innocent, and one person (or a few people) in either Indonesia or Australia has put her life at risk.
I doubt she'll the death penalty, even if she admits guilt. Australia is meeting with ASEAN on Monday to negotiate a Free Trade Agreement. It'll be sorted out there. Of course, we'll never hear about it.
And the people selling "drugs" on every street corner in Bali are selling banana leaves. The police don't do anything about them, because that's how they catch users (who are a handy source of income).
There are about 230 million Indonesians. A few of them are zealous nutters. There's no need to be angry at the whole country.
