We went up to Ubud & there were 2 couples & we decided to find somewhere to stay for the night, we saw a sign hand written on a piece of corrugate iron & decided let's check it out, It was called Taman Sari (from memory) this was 7+ years ago..
We walked up a lane way & hit a dead end, saw a sign with an arrow & followed it.. Smack bang in the middle of therse beautiful rice fields, as we had walked 15 mins along a little track in between rice paddies.. There was a lovely, kind simple man whom had 4 rooms, inside each room were 2 double beds a bench, toilet & mandi style bathroom...
The rooms faced onto the ricefields, he said it was 15,000rp per night, including breakfast...
So we decided to stay we organised a heap of food for the night, sat on the porch out front of the rooms driniing & sharing our meal with this man... He played music for us & went out of his way for us, made the best fruitsalads, pancakes Bali Kopi etc for breakfast..
We asked him to keep the rooms for us for the following week & returned for a wonderfully relaxing week.. It was the most simple of rooms, but it was my all time favourite place I have stayed..
He wanted to charge us 50,000rp for the week, but each couple gave him much more & we left him with other goods.
MNy hubby & I have returned lookinmg for the place but I believe a big company has taken over the property & built a large ugly expensive thing! I am just gald to have the memories!
