We got back 2 weeks ago and stayed our last 2 nights at the Sofitel. It used to be a 5 star Japanese hotel (Imperial). The rooms were quite beautiful..we booked the ocean view...got a slight view of the ocean which was worth it...inside all is well in the rooms, though the toilet was dirty or stained..couldn't tell...no other problems in their..but the whole place didn't feel like we were in Bali after spending 3 weeks travelling throughout the island and staying in a lot of wonderful places I was disappointed. Could have been anywhere in the world once you were in the room...any big city in the US it would have been a beautiful room. THe lobby is strangely laid out, renovations during the day somewhere below us, carpet in the breakfast room was filthy and stained, though the breakfast buffet was great, our room was just off the lobby near where the cars arrive, that was strange..the staff was not that friendly, and rarely saw anyone. I did not feel I was in Bali to be honest.
The good side is that the pool is really beautiful, the beach is right there, the grounds are nice with some old villas being renovated and they looked incredible...nice architecture...nice people working near the pool...I wouldn't stay there again and wanted a different end to our holiday...so on one hand it is fine, quiet, but something was missing.
