I quote from the book, Candida---a Twentieth Century Disease by Shirley S Lorenzani PhD. ISBN 0-87983-375-0:
'Intestinal candidiasis can produce what doctors call "iritable bowel syndrome".'
The most common symptom of candida is vaginal thrush. It is a fungus infection so, as you may expect, thrives in dark, warm, moist places. Although it is more common in women, men can get it too. If it becomes systemic, ie goes through the body, it can cause so many health problems that you would hardly belief it. The best general overview may be the book, The Yeast Syndrome by John Parks Trowbridge MD and Morton Walker DPM. ISBN 0-553-27751-0. Chapter 18 covers allergies and chemical hypersensitivities.
Many people are susceptible to candida, but do not recognise what the problem may be [and frequently their doctors don't realise it either]. They often call it "sweat rash" or "jock itch" or whatever. Susceptibility is likely to be higher amongst, for instance, diabetics, people on various medications, including antibiotics and birth control substances and also pregnant women.
A general recommendation is to avoid staying in wet bathers and to dry oneself thoroughly after showering or swimming, two things many would find somewhat inconvenient during a Bali holiday.
