Not really a JBR but leaving in 8 hours.
Arrived 1st Feb via AP and had a great flight The one class aircraft is on lease from a Dutch company so the pilot told us so we had a mixture of Dutch and Balanese crew.
Visa went quickly and picked up bags. Customs decided to look at us (a group of 4) and found we were one bottle over in alcohol. we lost it but never mind. One cannot buy Brandy in Bali so I have had a very dry second week. 99% of restaurants also do not have brandy on their menu.
Arrived at the Bali Garden hotel and at first did not have adjoining rooms but thay was soon fixed. It is out third time at the Bali Garden. Not much has changed except that the new Japanese restaurant is almost open the new security box out the front is also almost finished.
I won't go into boring details but went for a walk the first night and got a Pro XL card for my phone. Gave Bill our usual driver a call and he came up next morning and took us out shopping. First to Makro for our supplies then down to Sanur for lunch on the beach. Still great and relaxing and great food.
Tourists are scarce everywhere so you are chased all the time to buy something but it is not too hard to go overweight (We are and keeping our fingers crossed)
Late in the afternoon we started looking for DVD's. Quite a few ne releases but the better quality are 20,000 as they come from Malaysia. I think quite a few shops are taking advantage of this and charging top price for local DVD's. Not easy to tell but looking at the individual disks one could tell the difference. Hence I did not buy the suspect DVD's. All others are at 10,000 each. Some deals are buy 100 and get 40 free. Some down by the dynasty are buy 100 and get 60 free. Some are 8,000 each but no free ones. The shops are everywhere and that is enough on that subject.
Restaurants. Went to Fabio's in the beach at Seminyak just after we went to Geneva's Great. You must book for night time. Went to Kin Khao opposite the dynasty. Cheap Thai but not up to the standards of Thiland. Opposite the Bali Garden we went to Bubba Gump. Similar to Hogs breath in AUST abd was good. Could not miss sunset at Jimbarian Bay with the seafood delight. It was good and when eaten in the dark it really open ones taste buds. Had lunch also at Momma's on Legian Street. a couple of times at Stadium Cafe various other places. Not a bad meal anywhere. At less then $10 a head with drinks I know we are spoilt over here.
Will add to this when I get home with details of the shops/stalls and places we visited.
