seats can only be held with two or more agents for a short period (days). When the airline notices duplicate bookings they will warn the agencies who will then advise you of the dupe bookings. If the extra bookings are not cancelled, especially during peak seasons, the airline may just cancel all the bookings in that name. Holding dupe bookings with multiple agencies also deprives people who want to book of these seats as until the dupes are removed the loadings on the flight are artificially high. Flight Centre, amongst others, are good at doing this. As soon as you ask for a quote they ask for the names and make a booking. We had one client who eventually booked through us but had 5 seperate bookings in the system for her family of five, 25 seats in total. Two of these bookings were with the same flight Centre but with two different consultants. She was lucky she went at all as Garuda was about to flick the lot of them.
