Shops etc will probably close around lunchtime Nyepi eve, if they open at all that day. A lot of people go back to their villages to celebrate, and quite a few take a long "weekend" away for 4 or more days. I was to have something made one Nyepi and the guy went home to Java and didn't come back!!
Several good places to see the Ogah Ogah parade, Ramayana corner a big favourite or even grab a street side table at a restaurant and watch..great fun. In front of HRH there will be impromptu runs in the afternoon as several Hotels along that stretch have there own Ogah Ogah. They will be proudly displayed in their foyers.
Nyepi day you cannot leave the Hotel, there will be security guards patrolling beach and streets. You should not make love either LOL.
The Ogah Ogahs are generally displayed on the beach towards Tuban and if it doesn't rain and ruin them (as it can do that time of year) it is a great opportunity to take photos. Can be a little difficult during the parade.
There is usually a market on the beach also which tends to be more of a local thing with lots of gambling going on, but interesting to wander through. Restuarants will be open all though the break but quite alot of shops and stalls will close,
Enjoy, it's a great time to be there.
