You are required to do a letter of invitation for your friend to visit and stay with you.

You must provide bank statements etc proving that you are able to cover their stay in australia. Your friend in bali must provide certain documentation including a letter from their employer stating they have a job to return to.

They obviously must have a valid passport which will cost roughly between $100 - $150 AUD depending on who they deal with.

Forms must be filled out which you can obtain from the Australian consulate in Bali. There is information on this which you must provide.

Check that you have ALL the documentation required before you attempt to apply for the visa. If you dont have all that they want then your friend will not be granted a visa.

The visa application is roughly $60AUD.

On top of this your friend will have to pay fiscal tax to leave indonesia which is around 1,000,000 rupiah plus I believe the 100,000 departure tax which we all pay when leaving.

Do not buy an airline ticket before the visa is granted. The ticket must be purchased in Bali.

The visa application should be processed withing around 3-5 working days. It is best in the first instance to apply for a 1 month visa. It can be the luck of the draw but if you provide all the information asked for then hopefully you will get him out here. The process is quite involved but not impossible to achieve.

By the way it is not necessarily best to state that your friend is a boyfriend.

I am sure other posters can provide additional information.

Good luck with all of it. cheers
