Every time I've been, it's been part of a package with one other hotel and an unbooked portion to do my own thing. If the overall deal seems OK, then I don't really concern myself with the break-up, but I don't think I can possibly have paid anything like that.
Bear in mind that, up until last August, I've only ever stayed in fan cooled rooms at the Tjampuhan and I've found that quite satisfactory in the dry season. [But I am a hot weather person, I live just a little south of Perth, I've also lived in Dampier, Port Hedland and Darwin and worked in inland Western Australia and the Northern Territory.]
Maybe last time we were lucky to get River 3 [now airconditioned] for the Agung price, but like I said, a travel agent who posts on the Forum has said that there is a free upgrade if you stay 4 nights or more and we were there for 4.
I have never stayed anywhere else in Ubud and don't really want to try, but next time I book I will look into this very carefully. I also talk to them myself by phone and email which maybe doesn't suit some travel agents. If you are not yet committed, I would get other quotes and look into the possibility of a free upgrade from the Agung price if you plan to be there 4 nights or more.
One of my quotes next time will definitely be Australind Travel. Do a quick search of the archives. Lots of good news and contact details in the last few weeks. We all know that some travel agents don't really seem to know what they're doing and some are more interested in high commissions for themselves, rather than the best deal for their clients. [Same as every other branch of commerce.] Hope you do OK.
