Over there a bra is (I think) about 20,000rph - 40,000rph so you can imagine how often a Balinese woman gets a store-bought bra! First time I took a bag of about 30 and gave them to the massage ladies. One tipped the bag out and it was like a frenzy of piranha as they all grabbed for them! Next day one of the ladies lifted her top briefly and grinned and said "I am wearing your bra!" and later brought me a cut up pineapple to say thanks. Last time I took a bag of about 30 bras, and when I visited Robin Lim at the birthing clinic in Ubud I left them there. I scrounge from friends (we ALL have some in the drawer that were impulse buys and don't fit!) I also buy good condition ones in opportunity shops and give then a wash in Napisan. I noticed in the stores in Bali that the locals seem to prefer the kind with the padded cups, so that is the kind I look for, and mainly in smaller cup sizes, but I don't turn down donations of bigger cup sizes as the bras will find their way to the older women too. Being generously proportioned myself I get a bit of a buzz out of buying these pretty dainty little numbers, and adding them to my bundle. I know some orphanages have girls up to 18 years so I imagine that would also be a good place to drop them off.
