We always take cash for most of our holiday, but also take cards for the final hotel bill, larger purchases or sometimes when you're caught without enough cash on you and a great bargain at hand.
However, last time I went to use my card after being in Bali for a week only to find there was a stop on it. Phoned the bank back home to discover somebody had tried to use the number on the internet but didn't have the expiry date to complete the transaction, so the bank simply blocked the account. The card hadn't been used in Bali at that stage, so I can only blame someone in Oz.
I could have been caught short if it hadn't been for the other cards we carry.
Cover your bases just in case.
