Hi SWT,
Great choice of hotel, such a relaxing/peaceful place and is a good price for the standard of the room and breakfast. If you want air con then one of the Raja rooms are the only ones with air con. As for location, any of the rooms located in the bungalows River, Sawah & Aire Smith are all great. They overlook the gorge are close to both pools and are not too far from the reception and restaurant for breakfast. The shuttle bus that the Tjumphuan runs can get you into the centre of Ubud in a couple of minutes, then a nice stroll home afterwards is good.
As for restaurants there are plenty in Ubud, here are some of my fav's:
Casa Luna - great bakery for rolls and choc chip cookies and cakes during the day. Also have a nightly movie for free where you can order on of their desserts while watching the movie.
Indus - owned by the same couple as Casa Luna (you can get a free shuttle bus from Casa Luna, just ask at the bakery at the front) Fantastic location overlooking the Os river valley, make sure you get their before sunset and ask for a seat on the terrace.
Cafe Batan Waru - consistently voted as one of the best indonesian restaurants on Bali. Very reasonably priced as well. This one is on the Tjumphuan shuttle bus route so get the driver to drop you off at the front door.
Cafe Pesto - cheap and great pizza
Terrazo - tucked away just off the main road near Ubud Royal Palace. Have fantastic rice paper rolls. This one is a little more on the expensive side but still reasonably price.
Lotus Cafe - food not the best, but worth it for the view over the water garden and temple in the background.
Tutmak - great coffee house and sweet treats which overlooks the soccer field on monkey forest road
Lamak - up market place on the more expensive side but worth it for a special night out. Has airconditioned dining room upstairs with view across the rive paddies.
Enjoy
Daniel
