Well Sanur is a great choice, especially with kids. We are a young crowd but always find a happy mix of young, old, kids and all the good things about Bali are all within reach I think! The restaurants are great and very modern but still cheap.
These are all on the main street of Sanur - Tamblingan Jln
A few restaurants that are a must:
My favourite restaurant is Mossimo's. Its an Italian restaurant and has a fantastic wine selection. The food is as good if not better than most Italian restaurants in Melbourne. My husband is Italian and it knocked his socks off so thats saying something.
Also
Mykanos Greek Restaurant
Retro
The Zoo
There is also restaurants on the beach with tables and chairs in the sand. Not sure what side of the road you are on but you can cut through an alley but I'd suggest exploring during the day first. If you have beach access from the hotel then you're fine. The two beach restaurants we ate at we
Benno's
Bonsai
and we also ate at a hotel but I cant remember its name, I'll let you know though.
The beach is fine. If you have beach frontage it will most likely be for hotel guests only therefore very clean as they generally clean the beach each morning I would think. The water is ok but Im not a fan of the beach anywhere, even at home so Im not the best judge. My husband swam in it no dramas but a friend copped an ear infection which is still on going. I love the pools so I stick to that and even put my head under!
Baby sitting!?? Hmmm well, I dont have kids but a close Balinese friend, who we know very, very well, babysits for our friends kiddies in their hotel room and just orders dinner from room service. We have been out til all hours and shes been fine with it. Personally, I would only leave my kids with her but if you have a kids club, that may be an option and I would think a 7 year old would be fine with that. I've not heard rave reviews about some kids clubs but hey, dont take the advice of a woman that doesn't have children! If its an option at the hotel then go for it, all Mum's need a break.
Shopping! I would take the Kids Club option for a whole day and head to Kuta without fail. Kuta is a must for shopping and make sure you venture to Seminyak. It should cost about 40,000rph in a bemo. Sanur has a great beach market and also some very decent shops on the main street and a couple supermarkets where you can find alot of personal items, film etc. You'll find everything in Sanur but not as much I guess but plenty to keep you busy just the same.
Waterbom Park is a MUST MUST MUST with a 7 year old, he will love it. Waterslides, pools, kids play ground, hot dogs, the lazy river. Oh he will go silly but be warned, he'll need an adult on most rides so be prepared for some scarey slide action!
I have some pics I can email if you want to send your email address, its quite fine to post it here. Please dont hesitate to ask ANYTHING cos I love the place and can rave ALL DAY!
