thanks for the advice - much appreciated. We'll try and get rooms near the road. My main concern was not the steps but safety on the balconies of rooms. I've seen photos on Web sites where people are sitting on verandahs with low rails - I feared our youngest one might clamber over and disappear down the hill into the river! (paranoid, I know...)
