My friend has just got back from Bali and had terrible trouble with american dollars. He even went to the Australian Consulate and they could only offer him $150 per person for the rest of the holiday. He ended up having to go to a bank in Denpasar to change it cos he couldn't use/change in so many places. The bank showed him a letter that was sent to all the banks in Bali about not accepting certain american dollars (I think it was 1996 and 2001).
