a place to stay for a surfing beginnger?

my bf and I enjoyed wonderful surfing vacation last year in Hard Rock hotel.
this year we will go back to Bali om march.
would you guys please recommend a place to stay where is next to beach and easy for beginners?
how about legian area(Kumala Pantai,Padma)?or kuta area(mercure hotel?)
