Having said the above; the over the shoulder stare, like locals use to the sellers, is the best approach. You haven't seen them haven't engaged in any dialogue, haven't raised their expectations and thus give no offence. It seems rude, from our point of view, but remember where you are, in Indonesia where they do things differently.

If all else fails and you are deep in the doo-doo, they well understand the fluent Balenglish of Pakk-Opp!
