Kuta Square is a short section of street with various fairly upmarket shops and a department store (Matahari's which also has a supermarket), several take away venues and a couple of restaurants. You will find a lot of people trying to talk you into buying timeshare, they will also give you a scratchie which will be a winning ticket, all you have to do to claim your prize is attend a 90 minute lecture on timeshare - I would not recommend wasting the time but that is up to you. Denpasar is probably around 20 minutes by taxi from Kuta. It is rather hectic and if you are a serious shopaholic maybe worth the trip. If you want a quiet stroll around then forget Denpasar. The markets, gold shops, phone shops etc can be cheaper than the tourist areas though. Hope this helps.
