Having recently compared agents, compared package versus direct bookings and a number of other options it is cheaper to at least book your initial accomodation together with the airfare. I prefer to book direct some of the hotels where I am doing one or two nights when travelling around, the smaller ones that are unlikely to be listed with whiolesalers. There is however a huge difference sometimes between agents prices on packages so shop around.
