Part 2, sorry its so late had trouble with logging in!
For the second half of our trip we stayed in sanur ( 5 days in Kuta then 5 days in Sanur) we stayed at the Sativa Sanur Cottages. A great hotel located slightly off the beach about a 5 minute work past the Hyatt. The Sativa is quite small only about 50 rooms and all the rooms are like little huts. The pool is clean with little islands in the middle. The room was much better than the Bounty and the bath is like a massive dish. The hotel does not have an English speaking channel however the Sativa does have a great in house movie service. You can chose a movie anytime a day from their selection or otherwise the guys are happy for you to take up any of your own dvds and they will put them on for you. No charge and there was never anyone else watching the movies, I think only on one occasion there was. So we would often put on a dvd after we returned from tea, and just chill out. The staff are more than helpful and would often watch the movie from their office and then discuss the movie afterwards with you. The breakfast was nice and the staff would clean you room whenever they notice you leave your room. You never had to put out a room service sign. The sativa is great value for money I think we paid about 35 US per night and I continue to go back and stay whenever I am in Bali.
On the Sunday I had my first ever Bali belly in my three trips to Bali, I did not do much for the whole day and the only thing that made me feel better was having a mouth full of raspberry syrup. I went to the supermarket and could not find raspberry or cranberry juice so I brought syrup, which was very strong and I watered it down.
On the Monday we were booked to do the Bali Hai cruise I was feeling slightly better so I thought we would continue with the booking. We were picked up at 8am by the transfer driver and then after picking up more guests from different hotels were taken to the Bali Hai take off point. The boat was clean, band was good, and the morning tea nice. We sat up the top and both got seasick because the boat swayed so much. The staff were very helpful though. Bf was fine once on the pontoon, but because I had been sick the day before with Bali belly, I struggled a bit more. The pontoon was good in ways and not in others. The pontoon had a few activities (snorkelling, banana boat rides etc) but I think we had completed all once in the first half an hour. Then had to do them again and hang around the pontoon. The island trip was great. The water was so clean and the tour guide was fantastic. We met some little kids over there and they were gorgeous. They would let us take photos of them. The kids were so excited to see their pics on a digital camera. The island only had 6000 people. I think if I did the cruise again I would go on the beach club, the island was gorgeous and it was much more relaxing, you could do pretty much all the same activities. We also booked while in Bali. We booked at a small table outside Matahari, just near the optical shop. We paid $68 US Dollars instead of $86, I think it worked out that we paid $87 AUD so it worked out cheaper. Lunch on the pontoon was great, although did not eat much. They had a buffet with a bit of everything, prawns, rice, noodles, chicken, fruit whatever you wanted. I think the water was free but you paid for other drinks. You could take a backpack with your own drinks and snacks if you wanted.
Some of the great restuarants around Sanur that we ate are were Cafe Bombay Bali, an indian/bali style restuarant had great somosas! Apa Kabar, in the main street walking towards the Hyatt, excellent garlic prawns on rice, my bf said they were the best with the best garlic sauce, only 12, 000. Also enjoyed Malins just near indian cafe, had a great pizza (20 000)and french fries (7 000) there, are well recommended!
I did a lot of shopping, I enjoyed the new shopping complex across from waterbom park. The department store is great, I think called centro. There are a number, three I think of optical places. I would suggest buying from there. Brought dvds from Helgie, he did not have many recent ones, so we also brought off the street. We brought around 200 and most of them work. I think we have only had trouble with half a dozen if that. I have found that if the dvd did not work on our good (expensive one) dvd player to try it on another dvd player that was cheaper, the dvds work better on the cheaper dvd player, so figure that. Had a great time and I wish I was back, hope the advice helps!
