We just came back on Saturday after using Qantas FF points for a return trip from Adelaide. We went via Sydney and went Australian Airlines. Although the in flight services were fine, coming back was a problem. As Qantas club members we have an international baggage allowance of over 30kg. But when we booked in over at the Bali airport to come back to Australia, the checking in clerks only recognised us having a 20kg allowance as it was Australian Airlines. We explained we booked through Qantas but that was not their problem. And they were to slug us $154US excess baggage fee.
They did try to help us though and we "negotiated" a reduced weight, and finally gave us shopping bags to offload items into carry on luggage. So eventually no fees, but we were juggling 5 carry on items to take into the plane. The plane was half full any way so space should have not been a problem. No access to any club lounges in the airport in Denpasar now either.
Ironically when we arrived through customs in Australia with all the checked in bags and carry on bags we repacked our bags as we originally had them and checked them into our return Qantas flight to Adelaide!
