Hi There - I did snorkel from the boat at Menjangan - unfortunately being born a Pom and not learning to swim till I was well into my teens I've never been really confident in the water so the currents Kerry encountered when he did his first dive sent me quickly back onto the boat. Our afternoon spot though was wonderful and I felt very comfortable as it was close to shore and not overly deep.

Probably the best advise I can give you is to talk to the various operators about what is on offer - there are quite a number of different spots around the island. I can really recommend Jorg and Andrea at Easy Divers and while diving is their main business I'm sure they would give you good advice on snorkelling too

Sorry I didn't hear anything about the 2 places you are considering - and yes there certainly were mossies around at dusk especially. Staff came round every evening at Pondok Sari and lit a coil that we then took into the room when we went to bed. I did use Aerogard roll on too as they love me - but I didn't have too much of a problem
